Thank's Ed. I like it. Now maybe John, with your permission, will use this as the offical song for the Cochrane site and we all have a song that honors both the crew and a mighty fine ship.

Wes, John and Ed....I second the nomination for the Official Cochrane Song....Ya know, some things never change, as I still pray for World peace....just finishing up the second shift at T.I. Dallas, but I think I'll stop by the "Tavern" to have a beer, shoot a game of 8 ball, and show some friends a hardcopy version of a Mighty Ship's song. They know the one, because its the one they hear so much about they have to believe it was legendary. GMG Sal

Wes, Sal, and John....I am honored that you like the song and you may do with it as you desire. Although the Cochrane is not mentioned by name i definitely wrote it for her. Somewhere in my memorabillia I have a recorded version of that and it was decent in my opinion. I have a rather large photo album with some great pictures of the old girl and some of the crew in 72 and 73. Some of my pictures actually show scrapnel sticking out of the superstructure. I'll look through them this weekend and see if I can figure out how to get them onto the internet to you at this site. I don't have a scanner so I'll think of something. It's great getting to know a lot of shiipmates that sailed on the Cochrane and feel the same way I do about her. I'm honored to have found this site and looking forward to many years of continued correspondence. later shipmates.....Ed

Here is another song written about Cochrane.

This was sang to the tune of of Sink the Bismark. Author Unknown

In May of Nineteen Seventy Six
When Cochrane took to Sea
The word got 'round we're comin' down
this mighty DDG
The Cochrane is the finest Ship
to ever sail the Seas
the crew has always been the best
the best we'll always be

Refrain: You ask yourself "What's going on,
What's causing such a fuss"?
We're known as Pac Fleets "Number one"
The best look up to us
Let's hit the decks a runnin' boys
Those foreign ports to see
ole 21 will sure be there
no finer ship than she

We have a mighty Captain
Who's known as Iron Mike
He always steers a steady course
and treats his crew just right
The crew is rough and ready
We'll be here for half a year
and still be just as tight

Refrain: When Seventh Fleet says "Number one"
We have a job for you
This mighty Greyhound hits the seas
the course she sails is true
We'll never cringe at any task
as other ships may do
and that's why she'll be number one
as long as seas are blue
and that's why she'll be number one
as long as seas are blue

well Dan....you really got my juices flowing. In my album I have one other song that I wrote while we served together 71-74 during a port visit and I'd forgotten about it but here it is in all its glory. The tune is one I put together so you'd have to hear it..

Welcome to the Cochrane
The finest DDG
A moving fighting grayhound
Whose spent her life at sea

She's mighty fine to look at
And quite well known by some
A moving fighting grayhound
The good old 21

So come aboard and see her
Visit with the crew
We like meeting poeple
We want to welcome you

We hope your stays a pleasant one
For soon we have to run
A moving fighting grayhound
The good old 21

Our crew is sure and steady
We know we have to be
With endless days of training
For the cold hard life at sea

We always pull together
whether working or in fun
We're what keep her running
The good old 21

So welcome to the Cochrane
The finest DDG
A moving fighting grayhound
Whose spent her life at sea

She's might fine to look at
And quite well know by some
A moving fighting grayhound
The good old 21

Dan...I think you might have heard that once or twice.....
Ed FTG1 71-74
