ALL,

Anyone who served in USS Cochrane DDG-21 from 27-JUL-82 thru 01-May-84 is authorized to wear the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation ribbon. My SPC/E-4 is prior service Navy (YN3) from USS America. He looked up the site that shows ships awards. We checked Cochrane and I guess after I left (about 3 days after) the ship got the Navy MUC for the period noted above.

Larry,

It's a ribbon not a medal.

The Cochrane crew also received a Meritorious unit commendation (ribbon) in 1968.

Dave, John,

I corrected the medal / ribbon goof with a little editing. And here is the link to the site for ships awards. It is an OPNAV site.

neds.nebt.daps.mil/o1650.htm

It looks a little cumbersome to me but the info is there for the digging.

Yup Al, you are correct about the award/ribbon for the crew of 68
as I know how many times we painted the colors on that ribbon for
the metal display ribbons on both the Port and Starboard Bridgewings. I think it is the same time we had the Shipfitters make the Baby bumper handles so many could hang over the side when berthing the ship. "BABY BUMPER, BABY BUMPER, HELP EM PARK THIS THING SO WE CAN GET AaaaaSHORE, AND RELIEVE THIS THING!"
