Somewhere in the back of my mind, it's kinda coming back. I think I remember bits and pieces of it. I do remember his name was Newberry. I remember him better than the incident. He was a little guy, and I somehow thought we was an ET, but I would suppose you guys would have remembered him better if he were.

The inicident with the water taxi was very real but by no means any thing unusual for our illustras crew during that era other items that must be brought back out are on some trips back to the ship in SUBIC the only ones left on the cattle trailers were COCHRANE men. Other ships personel lined the road on the way back. Another one was the first trip back to SAN FRANCISCO and allegedaly a few crew cleared the back of a flat bed truck of its FLOWER CHILDERN that were saying boo to our uniformed personel. Hong kong ROOF TOPS WERE OFF LIMITS ALSO but we will for now withold the names of those that had some real adventures there. The misadventures of 65,66.&68 on shore leave will definately take up many gigabites. Those inicidents along with with the accplishments feats and awards show the uniqueness of COCHRANES CREW. Now that the gates are open let the stories flow!!!

Ah, Hong Kong... I always wanted so much to visit that place again before "Big Red" took possesion of it again... but Oh well! Guess all our outstanding (??) memmories will just have to do instead! Jimmys kitchen, Kowloon, taking a small rock out of the river that separated Hong Kong from Big Red...watching the weatherdeck getting painted with sponges and rags...I dont recall any bad times there at all! Perhaps when we cary out our plan from the first reunion of commandeering HMAS Hobart, we can pull in there for a few days on our way back to the States!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Gotta ASK AND IT WAS CRUISE OF 68....Cochrane did 91 days at Sea and no ports as we did Day and Night NGFS. On small water taxi ships REC fund had hired, MAC MCKOY and a Radarman named Murphy took on a bunch from I think a carrier. Could not find Murphy for two days and finally showed up in Laundry Bin in the OPS compartment. Murphy was the only person I have seen that could loose 30 pounds in a cruise if they hid his bar stool. MURF, are you still alive????
