No dreams for me. To busy PCS'ing to another ship. But I do remember having the NVA shoot at us during Linebacker II.

J. Fryckman:

With your carrier service to compare, was wondering if the destroyer crews were/are more sentimental. I was never aboard a carrier, but the image I have is one of more impersonality. What do you think?

I've had dreams over the years. Each time I was in the A/S division berthing and underway. The funny thing was I was mt current age. It was a little strange, yet being back on board was somehow comforting. I guess deep down inside I kind of miss those days.

I hope you all have a great new year!

My last tour was in USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72, I would say without a doubt destoyermen are a closer knit group of sailors.

Paul, sorry about not getting back sooner on this topic.

I agree with another post. We were closer. On a carrier you knew the folks in your division (if it was small). Otherwise you were one of the thousands on board. However when I was S8 Div LCPO on the Connie, I did get the meet lots of folks needing our crane services and later as Supply Dept LCPO I met even more people, but nothing like a destroyer crew and the tightness you find among them. Besides we're all "black shoes." On that carrier we had to wear brown shoes (Yup!), but I did wear my black shoes a lot. :)
